Dr. Heath Antoine
Heath Antoine, MD, is an American Board of Surgery-certified general surgeon and Cleveland Clinic-trained advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon. He performs laparoscopic weight loss surgeries such as the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the sleeve gastrectomy, and more complicated revisional bariatric surgery. He utilizes a minimally invasive approach to routine general surgery procedures and has extensive experience in repairing hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, abdominal wall hernias, and in surgical treatments for severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). He has a special interest in endoscopic procedures for treating obesity and metabolic disease, which can provide safer, less invasive, and less painful options for weight control. Dr. Antoine believes in an individualized treatment plan for each patient based on their medical needs, and strives to provide quality and compassionate care.
Originally a Southern California native, Dr. Antoine earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then spent several years at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he worked to identify genetic factors underlying conditions related to insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome, and the metabolic syndrome. His research in diabetes, heart disease, and other obesity-related disorders drove him to pursue a career in gastrointestinal surgery where he could directly improve patient’s lives. Dr. Antoine completed his general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and an Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
Dr. Antoine is an avid sports fan and perpetual chef-in-training. He enjoys spending time with his family, running, cycling, Pilates, and traveling.
