During this surgery, the surgeon creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach. It is larger than the stomach pouch created during gastric bypass at about the size of a banana. Vertical Sleeve gastrectomy is typically considered as a treatment option for bariatric surgery patients with a BMI of 35 or higher and is often performed as the first part in a two-procedure treatment, the second part being gastric bypass. Currently bariatric surgeons are seeing sufficient weight loss following the Gastric Sleeve procedure to be considered as a primary procedure and not a two-step procedure. Our practice has had phenomenal results with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy.Recovery time is moderate and many patients are able to leave the hospital within a few days and return to work and semi-normal activity in less than a month.** Gastric Sleeve patients typically lose over 75 percent of their excess weight, and in most patients, Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol can be improved or resolved.**Patients must supplement their diet with a daily multivitamin and calcium and some patients will have to take vitamin B12. The stomach cannot be seen easily using X-ray or endoscopy if there are complications after surgery such as ulcers, bleeding, or malignancy. As with any surgical procedure there are inherent risks.
Note: Complications may result in reoperations. SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION
